Happy Lunar New Year 2015

I remember growing up near San Francisco's Chinatown it was "Happy Chinese New Year" but now with such a diverse population in California the holiday is celebrated by many other Asians such as Vietnamese and Koreans. Thus, today the proper greeting in English is "Happy Lunar New Year!"

I've heard it referred to as Year of the ram, goat and sheep.
Excerpts from Chinese new year: Is it the year of the ram, sheep or goat?

  • This confusion is caused by Mandarin Chinese character yang: 羊
  • Its apparent meaning is 'horned animal' — an encompassing term that doesn't really help journalists, event planners and new year celebrators decide which member of the Caprinae family they're supposed to be honouring.
  • Some experts, including Professor Ho Che-wah at Chinese University, trace this mix-up back to BC, when the 12-year cycle Chinese zodiac was first introduced during the Han dynasty.
  • That mystifying yang character, found on bones used for divination, was interpreted as an animal with two horns and a pointy face.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

from Kirk

Through the rest   of 2015. .

May you always make the right moves.

May your cup runneth over with love.

May you always find shelter from any storm.

May you remain good looking and looking good!

May you find the perfect diet for your soul.
(If this face doesn't make you want to stop eating sausage, nothing will.)

May you find perfect balance in the company you keep.

May you have as much fun as you can before someone makes you stop.

May the worst thing that happens to you come in slobbery pink and furry tan.

May you manage to make time for siesta.

May all the new folks you meet be interesting and kind.

May your accessories always harmonize with your natural beauty!

Should your mouth be bigger than your stomach, may you have a chewing good time!

May you always know when to walk away and know when to run.

And may your friends always bring you joy!
MAY YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL NEW YEAR
FILLED WITH LOVE, HAPPINESS AND HOPE..
best regards

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Seasons Greetings or all three if you are like me and like any excuse to be happy!

Reflections on a tough, but good year for me.

As of right now, my newsletter explore portfolio is up 34.4% YTD (now at 25% in fixed income 75% in equities) and my personal "core plus explore" investment portfolio is up 29.1% YTD with 33% in fixed income. (I still go with 120 less your age in fixed income and I'll be 53 in April.)

Up nearly 30% with only 2/3rds in equities is a heck of a good year... I am still not quite back to pre bear market highs, but it sure feels a heck of a lot better than at the end of 2008!

It has been a painful year for many of us in other ways if we saw loved ones or friends lose jobs or saw them go through foreclosure on their homes, but for some of us lucky enough to have funds to add to the market when it was lower, it has been a very good year investment wise.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas - Happy Holidays to Everyone!

Christmas Message:

It has been a difficult year for the stock markets.

Lets hope the stock picking monkey that throws darts at the Wall Street Journal has a choice of stocks to hit that all go up next year!

Now is a good time to reflect on the good things in our lives we are thankful for as we look to a better 2009.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah to all!!

Have a safe and happy holiday season!
